3 Tips For Preventing Foot And Leg Pain When You're On Your Feet All Day

Posted on

If you work a job that requires you to be on your feet all day, you might experience foot and leg pain because of it. Luckily, you do not have to change jobs to get some relief. These are a few tips that can help prevent foot and leg pain after a long, hard day at work.

1. Wear the Right Shoes

One of the best things that you can do to help prevent foot and leg pain at work is to make sure that you wear the right shoes. In many cases, it is worth it to spend a little more money on a more expensive shoe that is more comfortable and that can provide more support. Avoid wearing sandals, flats or other shoes that don't provide support, and if possible, consider wearing athletic shoes, which are designed to help combat the shock to your feet from performing athletic activities. Make sure that your shoes fit properly; too-small shoes can pinch your feet and cause blisters, and too-big shoes may not provide ample support. When your shoes wear out, make it a priority to replace them.

2. Invest in Inserts for Your Shoes

Even if you have a good pair of shoes to wear while you're on the job, investing in a good pair of inserts for your shoes can be worth it, since this can provide even more comfort and support. Plus, if you work with a podiatrist, you can choose an insert that is right for your foot size, shape and arch, which is going to provide a more custom-tailored fit.

3. Stretch Often

Whenever you get the chance, take the time to stretch your legs. Bending down and touching your toes or extending your legs, one a time, as far forward as possible can help you stretch your muscles and prevent soreness and injury. There are also yoga and Pilates stretches that you can learn that can help you stretch your legs for added comfort while you're on the job. If you stretch before and after work, and if you have the time to do a few stretches while on your work breaks, you should be able to tell the difference.

Just because you work on your feet all day does not mean that you have to suffer all the time from pain in your feet and legs. If you follow these tips and work with a good podiatrist, you can help prevent and eliminate pain.
