Information On Foot Issues

Posted on

There are a lot of things that can contribute to foot pain. By learning what the signs and symptoms of some of the more common foot conditions are, you may recognize issues early on that you should see the podiatrist for and you may even learn things you should be doing differently. Here is information on some common types of foot pain to learn more about.

Plantar fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis can be very painful. It is caused by irritation or injury to the plantar fascia. The plantar fascia can be irritated or injured in a variety of ways. Some of them include spending too much time in the wrong shoes, such as high heels, doing a lot of walking on hard ground like cement, having a job that consists of hours of standing or walking, and being overweight.

Plantar fasciitis can cause you to experience a lot of foot pain that is generally centered near your heel. It can be the most painful in the morning. Rolling frozen plastic water bottles lengthwise under your foot and taking an anti-inflammatory medication can help relieve some of the pain.

Heel spurs

A heel spur is caused by calcium deposits that have built up on the bottom of the heel bone. Heel spurs can be very painful, especially when standing or walking. Some of the risk factors for developing a heel spur include having an abnormal gait, jogging on hard ground, wearing the wrong shoes including ones without sufficient padding, and being overweight. Wearing better shoes, using ice, taking anti-inflammatories, and resting your feet can help with the pain.

A heel fracture

It is possible to break your heel if you suffer an injury due to a fall or another type of accident. A fractured heel is extremely painful. Pain medication and anti-inflammatories along with ice can help to relieve some of the pain. You want to stay off your foot and seek medical attention as soon as you suffer the injury. You will likely be given a splint or a cast and given a set of instructions from the doctor that you want to be sure you follow. You also want to make sure you follow up with the podiatrist as soon as you can get in to see them.

Conclusion

Anytime you have a problem with your foot and you aren't able to permanently get rid of the pain or discomfort, you want to see the podiatrist who will make sure the issue is treated properly. Look for a podiatrist near you.
